2005 Torch Award Winner for Business Ethics

RestorAid Disaster Services, nationally recognized for its comprehensive restoration services and expertise, has been honored by the Cincinnati Better Business Bureau for its ethical approach to the marketplace by winning the BBB's 2005 Torch Award for Marketplace Ethics.

"The Torch Award encompasses the spirit and tradition of the BBB unlike anything else," BBB President Jocile Ehrlich said. "It recognizes and honors businesses and
organizations who fully commit themselves to ethical practices in all aspects of their business dealings."

“In a business where burying deductibles and kickbacks seem to have flourished, we felt that RestorAid could be the one exception,” said Keith Desserich, President and Founder of RestorAid.  “After nearly a decade of service, we felt that our people and our customers were a testament to this success.  Winning the Torch Award demonstrates how business and integrity can work together to re-build lives.”

 The award was given at a gala on October 20, 2005 at the Cincinnati Music Hall, where the Better Business Bureau celebrated the winners, honorable mentions and finalists of the Bureau's 2005 Torch Award.

Companies were judged by an independent panel of judges who rated finalists on the following criteria.

  • High ethical standards of behavior toward customers, suppliers, shareholders, employees, and communities in which they do business;

  • Demonstrated ethical practices surrounding their buyer/seller relationships;

  • Longstanding history/reputation of ethical practices in the marketplace;

  • Marketing, advertising, communications, and sales practices which reflect a true representation of what is being offered in the marketplace;

  • Acknowledgment of ethical marketplace practices by industry peers and in the communities where they do business;

  • Management practices and policies that give long-term value to shareholders, customers, employees, vendors, and surrounding communities.

  • Training programs that assist employees in carrying out established ethics policies.

“This is just one more reason why customers and insurance companies alike should experience the RestorAid difference,” said Desserich.  RestorAid is the first disaster restoration company to receive this prestigious award from the Cincinnati Better Business Bureau.

The Better Business Bureau Torch Award for Business Ethics is a lifetime award. Once a company is honored in this way, they cannot enter the competition another time.   RestorAid is now a candidate for the International Torch Award for Business Ethics. This award will be announced in Washington in Spring, 2006.
